Verge 2013: Becoming

Vidya Rajan

My body contained the storm,

cool as an end tap box.

I contained the energies

of terrible conversation:

dialogues and undialogues in

a groaned velvet of panic;

and I was made

mettled by it.

God’s green earth yes

rose! The whole

prurient pouch of it.

Expectant, like a shimmered message;

and green.

like reeds know how to whilst

parting sand,

like a mythology.

But a rough wind can

ventilate reliefs and families.

Or try to, anyhow.

And when the earth settles,

there’s a murmuring.

Not a husk in song

as the claim will be

but an object frayed

below the wiring.

As expected,

I received no thanks.
