Still Learning

I am delighted to introduce Still Learning: A 50 Year History of Monash University Peninsula Campus authored by Dr Fay Woodhouse, which outlines the development of the campus since its establishment in 1958.

The Monash Peninsula Campus has a proud and rich history reflecting an ongoing commitment to post-secondary education and to serving the needs of its local community. The campus has played a variety of roles as the Frankston Teachers’ College, a college of the State College Victoria, the Frankston campus of the Chisholm Institute of Technology and most recently as the Peninsula Campus of Monash University.

Monash University is also celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, with the statute establishing the university being approved by the Victorian Parliament in 1958. Although 50 years is a very short period of time in the life of a great university, Monash has made remarkable progress in becoming a leading Australian university.

Since its establishment, the Monash Peninsula Campus has embraced a strong commitment to the education of teachers, which remains a major focus to this day. However, over the years the academic program has been broadened substantially with three faculties now undertaking teaching and research at the campus: Business and Economics, Education, and Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

The Peninsula Campus now plays a unique and valuable role in the life of Monash University. Over recent years the campus has developed an academic theme embracing health and wellbeing involving teaching and research in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, health science, nursing and midwifery, sport and outdoor recreation, early childhood and primary education and business and economics.

I would like to acknowledge the wonderful contribution of all previous and existing staff members and students who have made the campus the very special learning community that it is today.
