Melbourne 2030: Planning Rhetoric Versus Urban Reality

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Dr Bob Birrell is a Reader in Sociology and Director of the Centre for Population and Urban Research, Monash University. He is also a co-editor of the journal People and Place, has been a member of the National Population Council, and is currently on the Federal Government’s advisory committee on international education.

Professor Kevin O’Connor is Professor in the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning at The University of Melbourne. He is the author of many studies of urban development, with a particular focus on Melbourne. Publications include A Society Dividing: the New Economic Geography of Australia and the Monitoring Melbourne series.

Ms Virginia Rapson is Research Manager for the Centre for Population and Urban Research, Monash University. She has long experience as a researcher on urban and demographic issues and has contributed to a range of major publications and consultancies in these fields.

Dr Ernest Healy is Senior Research Fellow with the Centre for Population and Urban Research, Monash University. He is the principal researcher on the study Housing and Community in the Compact City, funded by the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute, and has consulted and published widely on urban issues.
